Introduction / Rationale: This presentation outlines the approach employed by an NGO in developing its overarching research questions to guide its program evaluation efforts, which assess the impact and effectiveness of transformative health services for children with treatable disabilities in Tanzania. The approach was developed by the Clinical Services Manager, an occupational therapist, bringing a holistic perspective focused on functional participation. This ensured the research questions were informed by occupational therapy principles, resulting in a comprehensive and contextually relevant outcome.
Objectives: The objective is to share this approach and explore how the occupational therapy perspective influenced both its creation and facilitation. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the approach and its facilitation process.
Methods/Approach: The approach involved developing an in-person workshop for a select group of stakeholders, strategically identifying which stakeholders and partners would be the right fit for the session. The workshop centered on a theme to identify the core elements of the organization and key areas of focus, while guiding participants through a central question to shape and uncover the research direction, all while staying aligned with the organization’s mission and vision.
Results/ Practice Implications: The occupational therapy perspective was instrumental in shaping and guiding the development of an approach for an organization to create its overarching research questions.
