Implementation of Recovery Through Activity program in France psychiatric service

Introduction: Rehabilitation interventions in psychiatric settings commonly focuses on symptom reduction and skill enhancement. The recovery model emphasizes the client's active role in redefining their identity and discovering new meaning in their everyday lives through engagement in meaningful occupations. In outpatient settings, occupational therapists are asked to develop and implement interventions that support occupational competence.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the implementation of the RéActive therapeutic group, adapted from Sue Parkinson's Recovery Through Activity program, within the Ariane psychosocial rehabilitation service at the EPSM of Caen, France. The RéActive group aims to facilitate recovery for individuals with mental health conditions by fostering occupational engagement and enhancing occupational competence.

Methods: The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data (assessments of occupational performance,OSA, interet checklist, role checklist), with qualitative data (group observations, participant interviews) to comprehensively assess the program's benefits.

Results: Beyond its positive impact on occupational performance and engagement, the RéActive group was well-received by participants and health professionals. The program demonstrated its feasibility within the existing service structure and its potential for wider implementation.

Conclusion: Findings from this research will contribute valuable insights into the benefits of the RéActive group within a French context and provide evidence-based support for the integration of occupation-based interventions in mental health rehabilitation.
