Climate

Bangkok tends to have dry conditions and will be warmer than the northern parts of Thailand due to the city’s lower altitude.

Average temperatures range from 24 – 33°C / 75 – 91°F and average rainfall is 1mm.

Currency

The currency in Bangkok is the Thai Baht (฿).

Banks are usually open from Monday to Friday, automated teller machines (ATMs) function 24/7.

Most taxis accept cash only, though ride-sharing apps often accept credit cards.

Language

The official language of Thailand is Thai.

In Bangkok, where the major business and commercial transactions are held, English is widely spoken, written and understood. Further, in most hotels, shops and restaurants of major tourist destinations, English and some European languages are spoken, written and understood.

Although the Thai language can be challenging to master, it is always appreciated when visitors can offer common phrases in the local language.

Visas

Visitors requiring a visa to enter Thailand should apply to their local Thai consulate for information specific to their situation.

We recommend starting this early to give yourself ample time to manage the administrative process.

More information can be found on the Travel & Accommodation page.
