Hassan Sarsak (PhD, OT) is an Associate Professor and the Founding Head of the Occupational Therapy (OT) Program at Batterjee Medical College (BMC), Saudi Arabia. Dr. Sarsak received his Doctorate Degree in Rehabilitation Sciences and OT from the University of Pittsburgh in 2013. Dr. Sarsak has worked in the United States, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan for over 20 years in a variety of clinical, academic, and research institutions. In 2017, Dr. Sarsak developed the Wheelchair Training Program (WTP) to become the first Arab Training Program receiving recognition from the International Society of Wheelchair Professionals (ISWP). In 2018, Dr. Sarsak became an ISWP Certified International Wheelchair Service Provider and Trainer at Basic, Intermediate, Managers and Stakeholders’ levels. In 2019, Dr. Sarsak developed an OT Program and Curriculum at BMC to become the first approved OT Program in Saudi higher education private sector by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). In 2020, Dr. Sarsak developed the “Arabic for Everyone Initiative: Enriching Arabic Content in OT Project” and has authored over five OT books in Arabic language, such as the first Arabic OT dictionary “Comprehensive Dictionary in Occupational Therapy” and the first Arabic OT encyclopedia “Arabic Reference to Occupational Therapy”. In 2023, Dr. Sarsak developed the “OT Dictionary” Mobile Application to become the first digital English-Arabic OT Dictionary worldwide. In 2024, Dr. Sarsak was appointed as a Consultant for Assistive Technology at the World Health Organization (WHO). Dr. Sarsak has the following research, academic, and clinical interests: (1) Mental Health and Psychiatric Rehabilitation, (2) Wheeled Mobility and Seating Interventions, (3) Assistive Technology, (4) Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities, (5) Workstation Ergonomics, (6) Pediatric and School-based Rehabilitation, (7) Geriatric Rehabilitation, (8) Curriculum Development, and (9) OT Profession Learning and Awareness Development.
