Introduction / Rationale
The COVID-19 pandemic significantly restricted patient access to occupational therapy, particularly for those requiring neurological rehabilitation. Traditional communication methods, such as phone calls and text messaging, were slow and often lacked comprehensive information, creating barriers to effective rehabilitation. To address this, an integrated digital consultation system was developed using LINE Official to provide real-time communication, patient education, and remote support for both patients and caregivers.
Objectives
- To bridge gaps in patient education and engagement by providing a user-friendly digital platform.
- To enhance accessibility and satisfaction in receiving rehabilitation guidance.
- To develop a responsive consultation system that minimizes delays in patient support.
Methods / Approach
The system incorporates automated responses, expert-reviewed educational content, and interactive features for symptom monitoring and therapy guidance. A dedicated website extends access to additional learning resources. Data collection included patient satisfaction surveys and knowledge assessments before and after system implementation.
Results / Practice Implications
- 90.67% of patients reported high satisfaction with the system’s efficiency.
- Significant improvement in patient knowledge on stroke and spinal cord injury rehabilitation.
- Response times decreased dramatically from 6–7 hours to 1–2 hours, ensuring timely intervention.
- The system demonstrated scalability, highlighting the potential for broader adoption in digital occupational therapy services.
Conclusion / Contribution to the Occupational Therapy Profession
By integrating digital health solutions into occupational therapy practice, this model enhances service accessibility, patient engagement, and continuity of care. Future improvements will focus on content accessibility, expanding interactive features, and personalizing consultation experiences to further optimize rehabilitation outcomes.
