Introduction: In Japan, evolving social systems and changing societal needs have accelerated the application of occupational therapy expertise beyond the medical field. In recent years, non-medical sectors such as the judicial, educational, and industrial fields have increasingly attracted attention. In response to this trend, Canvas Inc. has been developing and offering an occupational therapy approach tailored to the general corporate sector since 2021. Starting in 2023, the company plans to expand its operations nationwide through franchising targeting over 30 locations and is enhancing its evaluation and analysis systems through advanced IT technology.
Objectives: Our goal is to offer an approach that applies occupational therapy principles to the general business workforce.
Approach: Our consult on occupational therapy strategies tailored to local characteristics, delivering targeted solutions for health issues within the general business community. Moreover, our IT system enhances transparency by providing detailed insights into employee data such as labor loss accounting and work engagement measurement to effectively address these challenges.
Practice Implications: When applying occupational therapy expertise to the general business community, it is essential to clearly communicate the benefits to client companies in a way that is easy to understand. To achieve this, visualizing medical data, as well as identifying company losses and weak points, plays a crucial role in demonstrating the value of occupational therapy interventions.
Contribution to the occupational therapy profession: The occupational therapy perspective is not limited to the medical field, but has the potential to expand into the general community. Our hope to see these trends spread beyond the country in the future.
