Validation Study of the Occupational Therapy Database for Physical Disabilities (OTDB)

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the validation of the ongoing Occupational Therapy Database for Physical Disabilities (OTDB) established by the Japanese Association of Occupational Therapists, with a focus on the accuracy and validity of the entered data.
Methods: The OTDB currently registers information from 30 facilities and 116 occupational therapists, encompassing inpatient data that include facility details, basic client demographics, weekly-recorded intervention details, and pre- and post-intervention outcomes. For validation purposes, a third-party reviewer at each facility compared the data entered in the database with the corresponding information in the patients’ medical charts for 17 cases drawn from three facilities.
Results: The concordance rates were 98.0% ± 4.8% (range: 82.4%–100.0%) for basic client information and outcomes, and 85.3% ± 6.9% (range: 64.7%–100.0%) for intervention details.
Conclusion: These findings indicate that the OTDB demonstrates satisfactory validation. Continued data accumulation is expected to further support the development of robust evidence in the field of occupational therapy for physical disabilities.
