Introduction: TEDx (short for technology, entertainment, and design; x after the TED acronym means that talks are published from independent local events that received free licensing from TED) considered as public media. However, majority of occupational therapy (OT) students and practitioners associate TEDx talks with giving talks on the platform. As of beginning of 2025, 2 OT students and practitioners had the experience of being licensees of TEDx events worldwide. Meanwhile, today's healthcare workforce climate represent a major barrier for OT students and practitioners to become licensees for TEDx events. Since 2020, TED's Countdown initiative has sparked global conversations on climate change and sustainability.
Objective: Participants will describe the importance of OT facilitating conversations about climate change and sustainabilities within their local or university communities; Participants will describe the importance of leveraging public media in increasing OT's public visibility on its role of climate change and sustainability.
Approach: The lead author will break down the processes he utilized to publish the first two TEDx talks by OT practitioners on climate change and sustainability in 2022. Practice Implications- In spite of today's turbulent sociopolitical climate and prevalence of burnout amongst the OT workforce globally, OT students and practitioners still must step up to advocate for occupational justice while speaking out against occupational deprivation, occpational injustices, and occupational oppression. This includes being comfortable in proactively publishing public media content in climate change and sustainability.
Conclusion: The lead author's contribution of the first two published TEDx talks on climate change and sustainability by OT practitioners should spark the OT's profession confidence in publishing more TEDx talks on climate change and sustainability.
