Introduction / Rationale
Ethics is often seen through the prism of paroxysmal situations, dilemmas, conflicts, problems (Wright-St Clair & Newcombe, 2014) or very general concepts such as respect, freedom, altruism. In both cases, these approaches do not allow us to imagine ethics in the everyday professional practice of occupational therapists.
Objectives
The aim of this presentation is to discuss ethics through the prism of occupational therapist everyday practice, and how each action is inseparably technical, ethical and political.
Methods / Approach Results / Practice Implications
This discussion will be based on the daily practice of PRACTS occupational therapists. PRACTS is a social occupational therapy program that works with people in situations of social vulnerability, mainly due to recent migration. (Pirony & Marques, 2024)
The articulation of these three dimensions, technical, ethical and political, will be discussed from the concrete field experience, articulated with theory, of a workshop conducted by PRACTS participants in a congress.
Conclusion / Significance to the Occupational Therapy profession
This discussion asks occupational therapists on the consideration of ethics in their intervention. Is it only linked to concepts such as respect, altruism or dilemmas? To what extent is it integrate to each occupational therapists intervention ? It could inspire reflection, provoke questioning or challenge occupational therapists on awareness of ethics in their daily practice, and thus the articulation of ethical reflections with technical and political ones, and perhaps lead to a transformation of occupational therapy practice on a micro and macro level.
