Introduction / Rationale: The motor and sensory integrative (SI) functions of school-aged children with intellectual disabilities (ID) are important for their daily activities and school functions. However, most assessments of motor/SI functions are too lengthy for routine use in schools/clinical settings and may not be appropriate for use with ID children who have limited attention spans and physical energies. Therefore, a mobile APP testing system for promptly measuring motor and SI functions in schoolers with ID (MSI-ID) was developed in our previous study. This study further examined the efficiency and reliabilities of the novel MSI-ID to ensure its consistency and applicability in specific texts.
Objectives: This study was aimed to validate both the practicality and reliabilities of MSI-ID.
Methods / Approach: This study used a stratified sampling method to recruit children with ID aged 6 to 12 years old, and administered MSI-ID to assess their motor and SI functions. The test-retest reliability, internal consistency, and feasibility were examined accordingly.
Results / Practice Implications: The expected outcome is to establish a convenient, reliable and feasible assessment tool to evaluate motor and SI functions in school-aged ID individuals.
Conclusion / Contribution to the occupational therapy profession: The MSI-ID has significant potential for OT and school teachers to develop intervention protocols and IEP, implement adapted courses, and evaluate both the curriculum and the therapeutic progress for their children with ID.
