WFOT Congress 2026: Opening Ceremony

Description

In this Opening Ceremony, we welcome delegates to the congress and set the tone for the days ahead. Featuring Ritchard Ledgerd, Samantha Shann, Duenngarm Pakdee, Dr Sopon Iamsirithaworn, and Kylie Shae OAM, the session recognises the significance of gathering occupational therapists, partners, educators, researchers, and advocates from around the world to share knowledge, strengthen connections, and advance the profession together. The ceremony highlights both the global reach of occupational therapy and the importance of local leadership, cultural exchange, and international collaboration in shaping its future.

The session brings together messages of welcome, recognition, and shared purpose, acknowledging the work of organisers, host institutions, professional bodies, and the wider occupational therapy community. Speakers reflect on the value of coming together at a time of change across health, rehabilitation, and social care, while reaffirming a collective commitment to inclusion, innovation, and person-centred practice. Across the ceremony, a clear message emerges: this congress is not only a space for learning and celebration, but also an opportunity to strengthen the relationships, ideas, and leadership needed to support occupational therapy’s continued growth and impact worldwide.
