In this WFOT Symposium session, The Future of the Profession, occupational therapy leaders from different regions and practice contexts reflect on the opportunities and challenges shaping the profession in the years ahead. Featuring Consuelo Alzamora, Kira Hanßmann, Michael Palapal Sy, and Neelum Zhera, and chaired by Tecla Mlambo, the discussion explores how occupational therapy must continue to evolve in response to changing health systems, workforce pressures, education needs, and the growing demand for inclusive, accessible, and person-centred care.
The session highlights key priorities for the future, including leadership development, advocacy, global workforce growth, innovation in education and practice, and stronger recognition of occupational therapy’s value across communities and systems.
